This project was carried out in collaboration with the PAL rehabilitation service at the Nîmes University Hospital and Naturalpad, a research center using video games for health purposes. The aim of the project was to design a tool to improve the follow-up, but also the understanding of the disease in order to improve the care pathway for both patients and caregivers. And how to move from a logic of advice to a dynamic of coaching.  (Authors : Nicolas Keefe, Camille Bonnefoy, Gersain Villafane, Agathe Schoirfer).

2020

To do this, we have tried to understand the levers of acceptance and motivation of patients suffering from chronic low back pain. As a result of our field work, we were able to determine what the patient's ideal path would be (from the first diagnosis at the PAL, up to 1 year later for the last assessment appointment). We understood that the needs of patients throughout this ideal path were: regaining self-confidence, understanding oneself, being understood, acceptance (of oneself and one's entourage), motivation, and regaining autonomy.

We have designed a customizable object, transportable as a daily support tool, offering reassuring and motivating personal support (self-knowledge) and a support for therapeutic follow-up (facilitating the relay of information between caregivers), also capable of raising awareness and providing information on the disease (communication with family and friends).

The real difficulty lies in how to respond to a need for recognition and care for the suffering of patients, without giving them the status of a handicapped person, which they refuse. To do this, we worked with the patients on the semiotics of the notebook, both in the words chosen and in the colors and shapes.
